What is Maryland Mission of Mercy?

Aisha Johnson of Laurel receives a cleaning from dental hygienist Susan Swanson of Dr. Kraig Stetzer's practice at Eastern Shore Smile Solutions during the Mission of Mercy free dental clinic at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center. About 1,140 volunteers, with more than 130 dentist volunteers, gave access to dental care to more than1,500 people during the two-day clinic, which returns this Friday.

Maryland Mission of Mercy events are gatherings of volunteer dental professionals who, along with a volunteer staff of several hundred, hold free, two-day dental clinics at locations around the state. This is the first large-scale Mission of Mercy event that has been held since the COVID-19 pandemic. Smaller Mission of Mercy events have been held in various locations across Maryland, said the Maryland State Dental Association in a news release.
