After nearly 20 years serving the Taos community, Eye Associates of New Mexico will close its doors Sept. 12.
The announcement comes as Dr. Warren Rorebeck, who has worked at the clinic for 19 years, prepares to depart the practice and community, according to a press release.
“Since we opened the Taos clinic in 2005 with Dr. Jock Morrison at the helm, we have had the privilege of serving countless families; the impact of our planned September 12th closure on the community is not lost on us,” CEO Tony Lenhart said in the release.
“We understand the void this will create and the challenges it presents to our patients,” Lenhart continued. “Our team has explored every possible option to find a suitable successor, but the increased difficulty in attracting medical professionals to the region has made it an insurmountable challenge.”
The company extended its thanks to its Taos area patients and Taos clinic staff.
Lenhart said the company is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for patients and will provide assistance in finding alternative medical care providers. Staff is available to help transfer medical records and provide referrals to other clinics and healthcare professionals.
“We understand that this news may come as a surprise and may cause concern about continuity of care,” a letter to patients stated. “Please be assured that we are working diligently to ensure a smooth transition for all our patients. We will provide you with a copy of your medical records for future healthcare needs. Additionally, we can offer recommendations for alternative healthcare providers in the area.”
There are two alternatives for folks seeking vision care in Taos: Real Eyes Taos and Taos Optometry Services. Jane Compton with Taos Optometry Services is accepting new patients, according to the clinic, which asked the Taos News to announce that Dr. Scott Forman, a neuro-ophthalmologist, no longer works there.
Real Eyes Taos did not respond to inquiries as to whether the clinic is accepting new patients.
Additionally, patients of Dr. Renny Levy can continue to see him at Eye Associates on Rodeo Road in Santa Fe, according to the company, which advised Levy’s patients that “all follow-up appointments after Sept. 12 must be scheduled at our Santa Fe location on Rodeo Rd.”
“If we can secure another location for Dr. Levy in Taos, we will communicate that to all of his Taos patients at that time,” the company stated in the patient letter. “We appreciate your understanding and continued trust in us as your healthcare providers.

“We want to take this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for allowing us to be a part of your healthcare journey,” the company said. “Your trust and loyalty have been invaluable to us, and we sincerely hope that we have contributed positively to your well-being.”
