Tips to encourage healthy habits for men

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – June is a time to celebrate the men in our lives and their health. June is Men’s Health Month and is a time to encourage healthy habits to support long-term strength, focus and resilience.

A fitness, nutrition and mindset expert talks more about how men can transform their routines for productivity in their daily lives.

“Men need support just like women need support,” said Fitness, Nutrition and Mindset expert Kylie Larson.

Fitness, Nutrition and Mindset expert Kylie Larson says there are a lot of simple and sustainable things a person can do.

“Walking, start with walking. Walking is one of the easiest things you can do. You can do it at any time. You don’t need any equipment. You can do it anywhere. It does so much not only for your physical health, but also your mental well-being and managing your stress,” said Larson.

Go to bed on time.

Larson said, “In this world where stress is a little bit higher than we’ve ever experienced, sleep is the number one tool we have in our toolbox to help recover from the daily stressors.”

Eat protein at every meal.

“Something super easy. As long as that protein is prepared that makes this habit super sustainable. Eating vegetables at each meal. Your mom was right. Make sure you’re getting your vegetables for the fiber, for the micronutrients and for the carbohydrates,” said Larson.

Connect with people to help the mental clarity in your life. Whether it’s friends, family or community. Take that walk with someone.

“I don’t believe in all or nothing. So, I’m not saying cut it out completely, but I do think cutting back is not only going to save your pocketbook, but it will save your waistline, it will give you better sleep, you’ll feel more energy,” said Larson.

Larson has coached thousands of people who have transformed their daily routines. She says consistency over time is key.

“You are going to notice a significant difference in the way you feel and the way that you perform at home, at work and in the gym,” said Larson.

Once you are ready to take it to the next level, Larson says that’s where exercise, strength training and high intensity work outs come in play.

“More body fat can turn testosterone to estrogen. That’s what we do not want. That’s going to increase estrogen levels overall and decrease testosterone levels. So, you really want to make sure you’re working out, strength training, doing those high intensity workouts to stimulate that testosterone production,” said Larson.

Overall, Larson stresses the importance of nourishing the mind and the body.

“I don’t know if men are getting the support they need. I just want to let me know that we are here to support you as well. Lean on each other. We need that community,” said Larson.

Larson says limiting your alcohol consumption can also play a significant role in benefiting your overall well-being.
